GigaDevice Semiconductor is a leading Chinese fabless semiconductor company headquartered in Beijing, China. The company is best known in the embedded world for its GD32 series of 32-bit general-purpose microcontrollers. GigaDevice originally built its reputation as a top supplier of SPI NOR flash memory. Leveraging that memory expertise, it entered the microcontroller market in 2013. Since then, the GD32 family has grown rapidly into one of the most popular MCU lines in China. As GD32 grew popular, reverse engineering of its parts became common in the aftermarket, which pushed the company to invest more in security features.
